Singapore Budget 2015: Building our Future, Strengthening Social Security

This year’s Budget takes major steps in four areas: investing in skills of the future, restructuring our economy by promoting innovation and internationalisation, investing in economic and social infrastructure, and strengthening assurance in retirement and enhance support for middle-income families. SkillsFuture

SkillsFuture will create a new environment for lifelong learning by developing the skills and mastery needed to take our economy to the next level. More fundamentally, it will empower every Singaporean to chart their own journey in life and gain fulfilment at work and even in their senior years. Click here for more details.

Innovation

Strengthening Support for Innovation and Internationalisation

Budget 2015 provides enhanced support for companies to innovate and internationalise, through strengthening grant support, capturing value from R&D, and catalysing financing for new ideas. Click here for more details.

Retirement

Strengthening Retirement Adequacy

We will increase CPF contributions during the working years, and increase the Extra Interest feature for smaller CPF balances for older Singaporeans. We will also introduce the Silver Support scheme to help Singaporeans with much less resources in their retirement years. Click here for more details.

Families

Supporting Families, Strengthening Community

We will enhance affordable, quality childcare, as well as further help families with education costs. We will also enhance tax deductions for donations, and encourage a culture of giving from young. In addition, Budget 2015 provides additional help for Singaporean households to help them with the cost of living. Click here for more details.

Revenue

Preserving a Fair and Sustainable Fiscal System

To strengthen revenues, we will include Temasek in the Net Investment Returns Framework. We will also raise the personal income tax rates of our top income earners. Click here for more details.

Budget 2015 Debate Round-Up Speech

Deputy Prime Minister and  Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam delivered the Budget 2015 Debate Round Up Speech in Parliament on 5 March 2015. His response to the issues raised by Members of Parliament centred around the following themes:

  • Uplifting our SMEs;
  • Building a fair and inclusive society; and
  • Sustaining a fair and progressive system not just for today, but the next generation.
